Fill Us!
Philippians 2:17-18, Devotion #18
But even if my life is to be poured out like a drink offering to complete the sacrifice of your faithful service (that is if I am to die for you), I will rejoice, and I want to share my joy with all of you. And you should be happy about this and rejoice with me. Philippians 2:17-18
Father, has our experience of You left us with joy? Do we "rejoice?" Do we "want to share (our) joy with all of" our friends and acquaintances? Questions which are worth the pondering! And these questions beckon for an answer, not necessarily for others, but for ourselves! There are definite peaks and valleys in our relationship with You. There are times we want to shout from the hill tops how wonderful You have been to us, how glorious You are. And there are times that we couldn't find the energy at all to share anything about You.
The "Prayer of the Holy Spirit" prays: "Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful and kindle in them the fire of Your love. Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth. O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations. Through Christ our Lord. Amen."
Father, do fill the hearts of all Your faithful. Fill us with a joy that leads to rejoicing. Fill us with a faith that leads to following. Fill us with a yearning and hunger that leads us to fullness in You. Fill us with a weariness that leads us to your rest. Regardless of whatever the situation, we "will rejoice" and share our "joy with" others. What else can we do? Come Holy Spirit!
Thank you, Father, in Jesus name. Amen.
Love, Dad / Danny
