We Get Around

Philippians 2:14-15, Devotional #5

In everything you do, stay away from complaining and arguing, so that no one can speak a word of blame against you.  You are to live clean, innocent lives as children of God in a dark world full of crooked and perverse people.  Let your lives shine brightly before them.

Philippians 2:14-15

Father, I sit at the doctor's office waiting for a three month checkup to see if there are any cancer cells in my body. Hmmm . . . cancer kills people, and so do car wrecks, floods, tornados, guns and so on. We will all die someday. So, how we die does not seem to be the thing to be concerned about BUT how we live – that's what really matters.

Your word is beautiful to me - how it comes alive in so many practical ways. Here we read, "Let your light shine brightly before" those we live around, work around, go to school around, eat around, play around, root for the team around, sit in the doctor's office around, vote around, and on and on and on around.

You know, in reality, we are all dying every day, getting closer to that final day. So, how are we going to live while we are dying? There was a country song a short while back that sings, "Live like you were dying!" implying that we are to live life at its fullest. So, today, as I've been around a bunch of guys in a morning Bible study, sat and talked about life with a couple men, talked with another about finding a safe place where men can talk about anything - talking with another about staying away from complaining, standing in a voting line and talking with a man about growing up in Jesus, and it's not yet noon . . . have I been living in such a way that Your light within me shines brightly to those around me? We are "around" so many every day. May our lives shine brightly before them. Come Holy Spirit.

Thank You, Father, in Jesus name. Amen.

Love, Dad / Danny
