Hold On…Hold Tightly Philippians 2:16, Devotional #1
Hold tightly to the word of life, so that when Christ returns, I will be proud that I did not lose the race and that my work was not useless. Philippians 2:16
Father, "Hold tightly" - and what is it we are holding on to? "The Word of life" -these few words get my mind rolling. "Hold tightly" and my mind runs to: I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from the love of God. Death can't, life can't, the angels can't and the demons can't. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow and even the powers of hell can't keep God's love away. Whether we are high above the sky or in the deepest ocean, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed to us in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:38-39). You see, nothing can snatch Your love from us because You have such a firm grip on us. You are the one who really holds tightly.
We cross the street with a young child holding our hand but the child's grip is not the one that really matters. He will not run out into traffic because of our firm strong grip. Our love puts the squeeze onto his little life for his safety. So sure, we "hold tightly" all the while knowing Your grip is so much stronger.
Father, we venture out into the real world every day facing whatever joy or challenge comes our way. My uncle died yesterday. I'm so grateful for Your grip on his life. I'm so grateful You held onto his hand to the end. Our grip grows weary; Yours never does. Amen. Come Holy Spirit.
Thank You, Father, in Jesus name. Amen. Love, Dad / Danny
