What Do Others See? Philippians 2:14-15, Devotional #1
In everything you do, stay away from complaining and arguing, so that no one can speak a word of blame against you. You are to live clean, innocent lives as children of God in a dark world full of crooked and perverse people. Let your lives shine brightly before them. Philippians 2:14-15
Father, it's been a while since I have prayed via print this "daily devotional." I'm pondering back over those days gone by without this writing . . . I know my love for you has been no less than before, nor is my commitment to you and your ways any less. For an unknown reason I haven't prayed these daily scriptural prayers of late. Hmmm – seasons come and go I guess.
So today I ponder your Word which reads that "in everything . . ." we do we are to "stay away from complaining and arguing . . . so that no one can speak a word of blame against you." Some of us guys were reading Galatians this morning and Galatians 2:9b jumped out at me when Paul wrote, ". . . when they recognized the grace given to me. . ." What caught my mind's eye was the thought, "What do others see in me?" Do they see, do they recognize your grace in me? Do they see the fruit of your Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control? Just what is it they might see of you when they look at me.
For sure, if our mouth speaks forth complaint and argumentative ways, that will be what is seen. If our mouth speaks forth compliment and grace, peace and love, that will be what is seen. So what do others see via our words? What do we see if we honestly look into our mirror? What do we want others to see when they look at our words? Our words reflect our hearts! Father, may others see, may they recognize You and Your grace, Your presence, in all we say or do. Come Holy Spirit.
Thank You Father, In Jesus name, Amen.
Love, Dad / Danny
